With organisations re-structuring, employees find they need to brush up on their job application skills. For the responsible employer, here are two ways to ensure that your people are ready for what lays ahead.

As organisations reorganise their resources there is an increased need for individuals to apply for new roles within the ‘new’ structure. This means re-vamping, updating or building a CV or deciding what to include in an application form. Both the CV and the application form are things that may not have been needed for a long time.

And then the interview, with the focus on preparing and attending it – again an experience that may not have happened for a while. Often internal ones are the worst! People do not feel comfortable ‘selling themselves’ to people they know. It feels false and difficult to treat as a ‘real’ interview. After all, the recruiters know them and what they are capable of! Or alternatively being interviewed by people they know can be the most intimidating experience ever! Whatever the individuals situation, in these times they need the opportunity to re-examine their approach.

Sometimes a re-structure provides the opportunity to look outside at what other organisations have to offer. Again a CV is needed and preparation time for the interview. And if out of the job market for a while, a chance to explore all the other methods of selection used today such as; assessment centres, real time testing, psychometrics, numeracy and verbal reasoning.
